Katie is a West Virginia native, returning home to the hills of Appalachia after an adventure in the Buckeye state. She is licensed to practice social work independently in both West Virginia and Ohio. She is nationally certified in Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from West Virginia State University and her Masters of Social Work from Ohio University. Katie has experience providing mental health services in both outpatient and school-based settings. Katie specializes in using the creative arts and play therapy with a trauma-informed and child-centered approach.
Family makes up the heart of Katie’s work. Katie believes the most healing aspect of therapy for families is a safe environment where caregivers and children can learn, grow, and connect without fear of judgement. Katie takes great care in harnessing the natural creativity, confidence, and resilience of children so they can chart their own healing journey. Katie values caregiver involvement in treatment, offering real-life tools to manage complex behavioral and emotional situations.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys curling up with a good book with her cats Primrose and Daisy by her side. She also likes arts and crafts, especially cross stitch and painting.
